12 Oct MiCiM at Practical Completion
MiCiM’s Project Management Team in the final stages of Practical Completion at one of the UK’s largest Datacentres.
In November 2017, MiCiM were invited by one of their Global Clients to provide the initial scope for the project management of two new 40MW datacentres in the South of England. Our Client subsequently secured the lease for the first of the two datacentres.
During the early planning stages, and working closely with the Client team, MiCiM initiated a change to the original standard datacentre design to provide the UK’s first innovative N+1 Power Stream (POD) design for the HV/Generator/UPS and switchgear. The 4MW data halls utilise fresh air cooling for the PODs and cooling towers for the data halls.
As the project evolved Nick Russell joined the MiCiM Team as the design teams were brought on board by the Client. MiCiM were delighted to be appointed as the overall Project Managers for the Delivery Team thereby ensuring that each stage of the build process was coordinated, transparent, and met the critical design elements.
During the substation and base build works, the MiCiM Team concentrated on the Datacentre fit-out and main contractor procurement, with Nancy Lamb – MiCiM Project Manager, joining their team.
In June 2019, the project moved to site which required MiCiM to grow their team with Danny Craig, Steve Brown and latterly, Steve Avis in Quality Management Roles and Albert Meta who was appointed to oversee the Architectural Quality Assurance aspects, in conjunction with his Construction Coordinator Role. MiCiM’s experienced and professional team, have managed the Main Contractor and the quality of the Sub-Contractors, from initial design through to final completion.
With the innovative power streams (PODS) being separately procured, manufactured and installed by AF Switchgear, it was essential that the MiCiM Team managed the critical design and coordination of these works into the overall scheme. MiCiM have supported both the Main Contractor and POD Contractor through the various stages from initial design through factory testing, delivery, lifting, gantry work, site installation and commissioning.
The last six months, as with most construction works has been challenging to say the least, with COVID 19 changing how we work on site, with the added pressures of ensuring the safety of not only our own staff, but of all on-site staff and visitors. MiCiM have worked very closely with the Main and POD Contractors to ensure that the correct Health & Safety processes were in place so that the site was able to continue working throughout the pandemic with no COVID 19 cases reported.
With commissioning well underway, practical completion is now in sight to take place during Q3 2020!
