MiCiM partnered with AVK on this project by the highly innovative energy technology company, Reactive Technologies as Principal Contractor to manage the installation of a 5MW modulator asset to connect to an existing fault limiting reactor on a large industrial estate near Middlesbrough. This allows power system inertia measurement a critical factor as more renewable energy is added to the grid.
Working with our supply chain and the Principal Designer, MiCiM developed the design of the civil engineering elements of the project, namely the structural pads, slab foundations and hard landscaping ahead of delivering the works on site. This involved close coordination with the various civil and electrical Contractors working on the project, which ultimately resulted in a collaborative and well executed approach and design solution.
Samuel Beardwell-Lacey joined the project as Project Manager for MiCiM in Q1 2021 to oversee the design development through to the completion of the works. After experiencing some ground condition issues at the beginning of the project, MiCiM worked with our contractors to find a resolution, address the issue and get the construction works safely and compliantly underway.
Once the civil installation had begun, MiCiM acted as the site manager on the project, ensuring that the setting-out and quality of the works produced were in line with any specifications and requirements set-out by the Client and designer. As Principal Contractor, MiCiM managed the site activities safely and in line with an aggressive programme, including managing the successful lifts of both the energy storage system and energy power system into position on the newly formed foundations ahead of the electrical installation and commissioning activities and ultimately to a successful handover of another mission-critical project.
